Shane Hurlbut is an accomplished cinematographer who graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor of Arts in Film. The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) nominated Hurlbut’s first feature, directed by Rob Cohen, for Best Cinematography in the category of Motion Picture, Miniseries or Pilot Television. Hurlbut recently collaborated with directors Scott Waugh and “Mouse” McCoy to lens “Act of Valor” that details the covert operations of the US Navy SEALS for Bandito Brothers and Legendary Pictures. This highly anticipated footage using mainly the Canon 5D Mark II camera will be among the first HDSLR full-length features released by a major studio.
Hurlbut’s versatility and expertise affords him the opportunity to work within any production budget. Of the 15 features Hurlbut has done “Terminator: Salvation” directed by McG was the largest and a visual reinvention of the Terminator franchise. Hurlbut has also collaborated with filmmakers John Stockwell, “Into The Blue”, Charles Stone III “Drumline” and “ and Bill Paxton “The Greatest Game Ever Played.” Whatever the genre, Hurlbut’s passion, work ethic and creativity shine through with each feature project.
Hurlbut balances shooting features as a Director/Cameraman for commercials. He recently signed with Bandito Brothers for exclusive US spot representation and just finished directing two national commercial campaigns for Case IH and The Marines. As a cinematographer, his credit list includes: Visa, Coca-Cola, Verizon, American Express, Discovery, as well as promos for the HBO series “Big Love” and “Deadwood.” Hurlbut has also worked with music legends The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins.
In response to Hurlbut’s mastery of the Canon 5D and his trailblazing spirit, he has become a coveted public speaker. Addressing his colleagues within the film industry at seminars, expos and panel discussions as well as young film students during course studies with an eye to the future.
